I worked as an App development lead for the cataract detection app from scratch. Also I was the Co-founder of Codevector Labs at that time and was involved in complete software development life cycle.

In India the doctor to population ratio is roughly 1:1800 which is far less than the WHO recommendations of 1:1000. As cataract is one of the leading causes of visual impairment in Tamilnadu (state of India). NHM (National Health Mission) is continuously working with the NGOs for early detection of cataracts and bring the patients to the Government hospitals for surgery and eventually avoiding permanent blindness. So to bridge this ratio gap our public-private partnership has come up with a solution that can be used by healthcare officials to refer the suspected cataract cases to the hospitals and as a result reducing the burden on the healthcare system.
Authorization
This app can only be accessed by registered healthcare workers associated with government of Tamilnadu and is not accessible to general public for use.
Dashboard
A web dashboard has been provided for the higher level government officials to access all information flowing down the hierarchy from details of healthcare officials, screenings done by them and to individual patient details with severity of cataract found etc. Also they can control access of the app to individuals or grant access to new ones.
Project outcomes
The accuracy of the trained model was ~96% on the data provided by the government. This app was quite successful in demonstrating the rising popularity of AI in ophthalmology and has touched thousand of lives by providing early detection of cataract. This project also won Nasscom AI Gamechangers award competing with 350+ AI projects across India.
